Where does working from home “work”?

As the COVID-19 outbreak forced many organizations to shift work from home (WFH) arrangements, are now considering whether continue these arrangements post-pandemic. To make informed decisions, understanding environmental factors that influence employees' capacity WFH effectively is crucial. This study contributes this by drawing on neo-institutional theory develop a model characterizes how outcomes shaped their national institutional environment. The was tested using data multiple national-level sources and individual-level obtained via survey. findings reveal employees high competency (cognitive institutions), meritocratic (normative more labor-regulated (regulatory institutions) contexts demonstrate higher levels of perceived productivity satisfaction with WFH. Moreover, link between context effectiveness pronounced when adjust high. Theoretical practical implementations for organizations, especially multinational ones, being discussed.
